Why is change so hard?
I've learned that changing behaviors always has an emotional component. And neither desire nor knowledge is enough for most of us to take action. Instead, our emotions can skew or sometimes determine the outcome.
For example, anxiety and fear often affect emotional eating, avoidance of exercise, or detachment from others. Likewise, feelings of stress, overwhelm, past failures, or conflicting values can derail the best wellness plans. Success in changing behaviors is determined by how effective we are at becoming aware of the situation, processing it, and then learning how to overcome the barriers that get in the way of our growth and well-being.
